Notary Education & What to Expect
Notarization can feel confusing if you’ve never done it before. This page explains what a notary does, what you’ll need for your appointment, and how to prepare so your documents are notarized correctly the first time.
Our goal is to help you avoid mistakes, delays, and unnecessary stress.
What Does a Notary Do?
A notary public is an impartial witness who verifies identity, willingness, and awareness during the signing of important documents.
A notary helps by:
-
Verifying the signer’s identity
-
Ensuring the signer understands they are signing voluntarily
-
Completing the proper notarial certificate
-
Creating a legally valid notarization
What a Notary Cannot Do (Important)
Notaries are not attorneys and cannot:
-
Explain or interpret legal documents
-
Choose document wording for you
-
Advise you on what to sign
-
Tell you where to sign unless it is the notarial section
Understanding these limits protects both you and the notary.
